Otsego County has a population with higher four-year degrees and lower less-than-high-school degrees than the other rural counties. Locally there are programs at each area college focusing on Business/Accounting, Computer Science and other IT disciplines as well as the Sciences.

Colleges and Universities
Otsego County is home to two 4-year academic institutions, SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College and a 2-year Business College, the Utica School of Commerce, with total current college enrollment at 7,215.
There are several colleges, universities and vocational schools within a 60 miles radius of Otsego County providing outstanding educational and training opportunities to over 36,400 students.

Public Schools
Otsego County is noted for its excellent educational opportunities and academic environment. The county has 12 school districts and educates nearly 12,000. Over 75% of the high school graduates go on to higher education. Nine private primary schools are functioning in the county. A broad range of academic offerings is available in the public secondary schools.
Supporting the public schools is an array of vocational and technical training through such agencies as Otsego Northern Catskills, Board of Co-operative Educational Services, and the Office of Employment and Training.

Private Schools
There are a variety of non-public schools operating in Otsego County. There are three Christian schools where children learn about academics and religion at the same time. One of the three Christian schools, St Mary's School , has recently relocated to a new building in the Town of Oneonta. Other Christian schools include; Lighthouse Christian Academy, and Oneonta Community Christian School. Otsego County is also home to Pathfinder Village and Springbrook Academy; schools that educate children with learning and developmental disabilities, and the Brookwood School, a Montessori-based daycare through 5th grade school.
