Market Access
Otsego County is strategically located along the I88 corridor and within one of the largest and wealthiest market areas in North America. 50% of the population in the United States and Canada; 50% of United States and Canadian personal income; and 50% of manufacturing establishments in North America is within a 750-mile radius of Otsego County. To contribute to these markets, Otsego County offers excellent access to interstate highways, regional and international airports and rail service. Highways
Immediate Access to:
- I-88 provides quick and easy access to Albany and New England.
- US Route 20 provides east-west access from Boston to Seattle
Nearby Access to:
- I-90 (NYS Thruway) provides east-west direct access to markets in New York State.
- I-87 provides north-south access to New Jersey and Canada.
- I-81 provides North-South access, which connects the Southern Tier with Canada to the north and the Mid-Atlantic and southern states to the south.
- Route 17 (soon to be I-86), the Southern Tier Expressway connects the Buffalo and New York City metropolitan areas
Air Service
Otsego County provides corporate jet service at the Oneonta Municipal Airport. Regional airports at Binghamton, Elmira, Ithaca and Oneida County provide passenger service through USAir and a number of commuter airlines connecting to national and international destinations.
Rail Services
Otsego County is well served by freight rail service through Canadian Pacific (Delaware and Hudson), and additional regional service through Norfolk Southern, the New York Susquehanna and Western, CSX, MA&N and Owego and Harford providing track and service to all areas. Daily Amtrak passenger service is available from Amsterdam, Rome and Utica.
Port Facilities
The New York State Canal System has harbor points available throughout the region in Rome and Utica, with smaller facilities including Little Falls, Ilion and St. Johnsville.
Bus Service
Extensive public and private bus transportation is provided throughout the region by Greyhound, Short Line and Capitol Trailways.
