REGIONAL PROFILE
Otsego County is able to offer the business community, its resident and visitors alike, the best that New York State has to offer. Otsego County is contiguous to three dominant regions.
The Southern Tier
The nine-county Southern Tier Region includes two metropolitan areas, Binghamton and Ithaca, a number of smaller cities, and extensive rural areas on New York State's south-central border with Pennsylvania.
The Southern Tier's strategic location and well developed highway transportation infrastructure place it within easy distance of the major ports of call in the northeast, providing quick and reliable access to the markets of the world. Within a 350-mile radius are 51 percent of all U.S. and Canadian manufacturing plants and 78 million people.
The Mohawk Valley
The six-county Mohawk Valley Region includes the industrialized cities of Utica and Rome, along with other smaller commercial centers, as well as the heavily forested wilderness areas in the northern portions that are part of New York's Adirondack Park.
The Mohawk Valley is conveniently located near the center of the state, just west of New York's Capital District. With easy access on the New York State Thruway (I-90) the Mohawk Valley Region provides direct access to markets in New York State, Pennsylvania and Canada.
The Catskills
The Catskill Mountains are located in eastern New York State, approximately 100 miles northwest of New York City. The Catskills encompass six and a half counties, and over 6,000 square miles of mountains, forests, rivers, and farmland. With almost three dozen mountain peaks over 3,500 feet in elevation and six major river systems, the Catskills are an ecological resource of significant importance.
